Using green it we can tackle global warming

Replacing IT equipment with more energy efficient products is one of the ways we can do our bit to tackle global warming. However, this is not the whole story. It was discuss in Barcelona on the subject of green IT.

On the desktop the biggest environmental cost is not energy inefficient desktops and printers, but the inefficient supply chain. If the hardware makers could get this right, they would be able to make greener IT at lower cost - savings that could be passed onto the end user.

Sony wins Green award

Sony Europe has been named the Greenest IT and product base Company for 2009 by the Environmental Graffiti website in its annual awards. The award recognised Sony for its continued commitment to eco friendly projects and e co initiatives.
Applying e co innovation to solve environmental problems.Environmental Graffiti, www.environmentalgraffiti.com, is one of the world’s biggest environmental websites. The award recognises Sony for its work in 2009, especially for creative green projects such as the Forest Guard eco initiative that involved Sony Engineers working with a group of children to develop their idea for preventing wildfires.

Helping raise awareness of climate and sustainability issues Sony got Green IT awards.The partnership with the Prince’s Rainforest Project to help raise awareness of tropical deforestation was one of the activities commended. Sony Europe was also recognised for stimulating debate about the role of technology and business in solving climate issues through a series of sustainability lectures hosted with the European Business School .
